Volunteer Opportunities

NorthStar Soccer Club functions much like any other recreational soccer program in the Greater Birmingham area. Teams practice twice a week and play games on the weekend for both Fall and Spring seasons.

Coaching Opportunities:

  • Serve as a skills coach Monday nights from 5:30-7pm. Skills Coaches will oversee one group/team of kids for the duration of the session. Coaches are provided the "focus" for the session, along with suggested drills, but are directly leading and coaching their assigned group.
  • Serve as a team coach for Wednesday OR Thursday night team practices AND games on the weekends. Team Coaches are required to lead their team's weekly team practice (though skills practice attendance is encouraged!). They are responsible for the planning and implementing of the practice session and making sure that their teams are prepared for the games. Team coaches are required to be at every game (unless partnering with another coach), arriving 30 minutes prior to the game for warmup.
  • Serve as an Under 6 team coach Thursday nights for practice and game sessions from 5:30-6:30pm. The U6 team learns the basics of the game of soccer for the first half of practices. The second half of practices is the teams' "game time" where they scrimmage each other to put what they have learned into practice instantly.
  • Participate in the Youth Group Ministry that flows from the soccer program. Each team has outside of soccer activities that they do throughout the season. Some teams meet once/week for youth group, while others have one or two events throughout the season. Volunteer to help host, lead or coordinate youth group activities for a team!

It is important to note that NorthStar Soccer Club's mission to is provide inner city youth a quality soccer program within the context of a Christian environment. It is encouraged that coaches have a personal relationship with God and volunteer with the mindset of sharing the Gospel with the players. However, it is not required that all coaches are Christians and therefore NorthStar Soccer volunteer opportunities are open to people of all regligious backgrounds.
